Burgh Island Causeway

Devons most sought after address

No12 is a luxurious beach-front apartment blessed with a fairly front & centre position giving a fabulous view, above the 'Blue Flag' Bigbury beach, directly facing the magical Burgh Island Hotel with its recently gloriously updated and delightfully decadent Art Deco look, and the wonderful Pilchard Inn.
It is difficult to express the almost overwhelming pleasure of arriving at the apartment to take this in, at any time of day or indeed year.

The apartment sleeps 4, with one king-sized double and one twin - both ensuite. Equipped with free wifi and broadband and all the expected kitchen facilities - hob/oven, fridge/freezer, dishwater, microwave, washer/dryer. A travel cot and high chair are available. A gorgeous balcony has a table and comfortable chairs plus sun lounger

A review of the apartment on our Facebook page said it all:
'
This is a beach front getaway like no other! Saw in the New Year at 12 Burgh Island Causeway and can honestly say it’s the perfect seaside accommodation all year round! So well equipped, spacious, beautiful decor - so well suited for families; the Bigbury Beach experience is unforgettable and I cannot recommend this place enough! Simply superb! Thanks for a truly wonderful stay!'

For us, the view as we enter the living room out across the beach to Burgh Island just blows us away! Sitting with a glass of wine watching the tide is hypnotic.

THE BEACH
  • Stacks Image 188

The gorgeous Blue Flag sandy beach at Bigbury on Sea is second to none. The views are spectacular and the fascinating tide pattern which comes in from both sides to cut off Burgh Island is mesmerising.

In addition to our club, excellent food is available from the Pilchard Inn and its cafe, and in the summer the Beach Barista visits with great coffee, the Oyster Shack have been known to provide seafood on the beach. The suburb Bigbury Pizzas operate at Folly farm at the top of the hill. The very well regarded Venus Cafe, only a few minutes away (check out their web cams) was rebuilt in 2020 and created a larger cafe/restaurant and is also open for takeaway .

THE VIEWS

The views from the balcony are ever changing, we never tire of the hypnotic tides coming from either side of the island and criss-crossing as they meet. All of these photos were taken from our balcony.

Then you have people walking dogs, holiday makers making sandcastles, men fishing, the traffic to and from the island on 4x4s or the sea-tractor. To add to the excitement one will get bogged down in stand for straying onto soft sand and will need rescuing!

There are all manner of water sports from total newbies learning to surf to the experienced kite surfers who fly around. The round the island swimming race is fascinating.

At the end of the day the sunsets can be absolutely glorious, combined with an Aperol, Hugo or glass of wine nothing is better!
