2024

Its been a very wet 2024 so far in most places although some seriously great days at Bigbury. We were told about the microclimate back when we bought the Apartment but thought that it was 'spin'.
The club gets better and better. Matts menus have been excellent. We now have Meri helping Brian out.
Car parking is getting to be a problem for non-BIC visitors to Bigbury, the public car park has a new owner and charging scheme. We are planning on installing CCTV to police our car park.
The Crab Shed on Creek Car Park, Salcombe is up to its usual standard and to be joined by Rockfish on the corner - but it seems to be going very slowly!. The Plymouth Rockfish gave me the best queen scallops that I've ever had - seriously sweet and delicious. So here's hoping!
For 2024 we have had the Apartments fire detection & alarm system enhanced per requirements of the recent legislation, with an emergency plan on the door (and on the website).
The sauna has been completely rebuilt, the wooden seating didn't like being allowed to dry out through COVID with nobody using the sauna. Then we had to find someone on Devon time to refit it.
Some guests have found the balcony door stiff to open. Sand gets blown into the tracks and we strip it to clean it, this can cause an issue - but the penalty of being about 30 ft from the beach! Aspect Windows attended and stripped the whole door, replaced the lock mechanism and it is now working as it did when originally fitted. Its moveable with one finger. It doesn't need to be locked but there is a thumb lock if you want to.
In September we installed a new heating system, French Neomitis oil filled radiators, all automatic.
Then in November we got new mattresses for the twin room, these are really very comfortable and compare well with the double bed installed last year.
Finally, someone walked into the glass doors so we have put a tasteful transfer on the glass - low down so it doesn't spoil the view.

2023
23/01/23 13:01
We had a great time at 12BIC last year, perfect weather and getting back into the swing after the disruption of COVID. We have eased off on precautions but still recommend that people think about this, it hasn't gone away although most of us have been vaccinated and should be able to resist the worst effects.
The local Kingsbridge supermarkets (TESCO & Morrisons) deliver to BIC so that you can get the essentials that you want easily, whilst enjoying yourself. We like the Holywell Stores and stop there when first arriving. We found that Fish4Thought will also deliver, so we can recommend their lobsters. That will certainly happen again in 2023!
Across the beach the Pilchard is a great pub and well worth the walk to the Island (and possibly the tractor back). The local restaurants are ready and willing, The Journeys End is a great comfortable pub with excellent food, the Oyster Shack is always popular with its fantastic seafood, well worth the slightly scary road which also leads onto the Tidal Rd.
Sadly the Bigbury Cafe on the site on Marine Drive behind BIC has closed, it was a community cafe specialising in home made food - especially cakes, and used the building owned by the hotel. Something may appear there in the short term but the plan is apparently to open a quality fish restaurant.
For those venturing a little further the Crabshell at Kingsbridge offers great seafood and a wider menu. The Crab Shed at Salcome adjacent to the large car park is brilliant - the best Lobster Thermidor I've had! Don't risk the tidal road if the tide is coming in - check the tide tables - there are a couple of good cheap phone apps (we use Tide Pro). Being stuck there with water lapping round the windows will kill your car, it is deep enough!
Please do try to support the club, the BIC Club Team have really settled in, we have great food and drinks available with a view from the terrace that is just incomparable. The heated pool is open to swimmers all day - just check/book with the club. Check the club Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheClubBurghIslandCauseway

Guests Update for 2022
15/05/22 14:43
Number 12 Burgh Island Causeway has retained its glorious, modern and clean, uncluttered comfortable feel. The view as you enter the apartment is still breathtaking and gets to me every time!
The club interior and terrace are now open for food and drinks from an excellent snack menu which is being extended (10am-8pm daily, 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays). You are be able to order food for takeaway using the phone 01548-810800. There are more details and menus in the apartment.
Swimming in the pool is now open for all much of the day. There is a period (details at the club) when you can still book a private session for you or your party, you can call down and book a session this.
Normal alcohol service will resume as soon as possible, when our previous stewards left last year and new team began we had to apply for a new license.
The use of the gate from the terrace to the beach is now possible (ask in the club for the current gate code).
If you are developing signs of COVID please do not come to Burgh Island Causeway. Get a test and check that you are clear.
If you develop any signs please go home and organise a test.
The Oyster Shack and Journeys End are still as good as ever, the Pilchard is brilliant - a great pub and much recommended. The Bigbury Café on Marine Drive just behind the causeway apartments is producing excellent food, the the hotel has plans to further develop this into a restaurant
Please have a wonderful time.

Number 12 Burgh Island Causeway has a glorious, modern and clean, uncluttered comfortable feel. It meets the requirements set by Government for reducing transmission of COVID, we have also:
• Reduced 'nicknacks' etc
• Reduced excess cutlery, crockery, pots and pans ie. clutter which all has to be sanitised if it isn't removed.
• Our fabric futon covers can't be readily changed every week - it is back breaking. So we have taken them off, put on a sanitisible cover and now have big throws over the sofas. These can be taken off at a changeover and replaced.
• Reduced the number of cushions so that we can swap them over at changeover.
Since the view now is that spread of COVID by touch is unlikely we hope that when things return to normal we can 're-dress' the apartment again.
The public areas now have hand gel sanitisers for use when you return to the apartment. Once inside for your own protection wash your hands.
Outside the apartment, please follow Government guidelines. We recommend sticking with the 2metre social distancing with others outside your ‘bubble’. Give space to others in shared spaces such as stairs and porches.
The club interior is now open, however food and drinks are available (10am-8pm daily, 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays), there are also four socially distanced table layouts on the terrace. These can be booked through the day, with a 15 min break between them. These are booked using the phone 01548-810800. You will also be able to order takeaways. There will be more details and menus in the apartment and we will let you know as requirements lessen.
Swimming in the pool is now permitted but for the moment we must operate a limited access system. This means that you register (free) as a member of the Club, then you can call down and book a 30minute session in the pool. Membership forms are in the club and they can explain the system to you. We are required to keep a register of users for the time being for track and trace,
The use of the gate from the terrace to the beach is now possible, but please give space. While these restrictions are in place watercraft can’t be stored in the tunnel or rear area of the clubhouse, there is a section of car park designated for use by the gate.
All public area contact surfaces are disinfected daily, the terrace tables are disinfected after each sitting.
If you are developing signs of COVID please do not come to Burgh Island Causeway. Get a test and check that you are clear.
ALL GUESTS PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU SCAN THE QR CODE ON THE APARTMENT CORRIDOR WALL BY THE DOOR FOR TRACK AND TRACE
If you develop any signs please go home and ring 111 to organise a test, and let us know so that we can take appropriate measures in the apartment.
We are also asking our guests to help keep our Housekeeper team safe. There are simple measures which you probably would expect to do, but as a reminder:
* Please strip beds and put the bedding and towels into laundry bags we have left
* Please dispose of all items from fridges and freezers.
* Please empty all bins (kitchen and bathroom) and take all bin liners to outside bin area on leaving.
Please have a wonderful time, we hope that in future years things will be easier and will return to normal.

December and the beach is still fantastic

We had a great time down at Burgh Island Causeway in early December. We spent an hour or so watching the local farmer from Mount Folly Farm write on the beach with his tractor, had a great fish and chips - first at the Club then at the Pilchard.
Simply watching the tides, even when it rained at the end of the week it was still amazingly relaxing. We played with time lapse on my camera.
